The Motion of Pluto and Neptune in 1945-2035

Abstract: The goal of this article is to describe the long living aspect between two planets and its influence on our past and future. We combine a precise astronomical description of this event with the effects that it produces.
1. Astronomic Motion of Neptune and Pluto and their Sextile
Neptune and Pluto are slow planets, having a rotation period of 165 and 248 years correspondingly. Pluto’s orbit is elliptical- its closest location to the sun is between 30 AU and 49.3 AU (1) - while Neptune has a less eccentric orbit. From 1979 to 1999, Pluto was near perihelion (2), so closest to the Sun. During this time, Pluto was actually closer to the Sun than Neptune (3).
From astrological point of view, the fact of being at similar distances from the Sun suggests closeness of angular speed of those planets. It means that both of them pass one Zodiac sign each, in about the same time between 1945 and 2035. Over the whole period between 1945 and 2035, the angular distance between both planets has been close to 60 degrees. In astrology, this aspect is named a sextile and has a mainly positive influence.
While other aspects between distant planets normally last for 1-2 years, this aspect lasted for decades. That’s because of the asymmetry of elliptic motion of both planets. The dynamics of this orb (4) is shown in Fig. 1-5 and later analysed in details.
The aspect affects different people differntly. In general, it is similar to the law of gravity by Newton (see Appendix). Ceterus paribus (5), the duration of the aspect matters. However, only a high level of connection with cosmic energies allows some people to reach substantial results. Even if a tiny fraction of mankind (let say, 1%) are influenced, they can generate many inventions in science and special achievements in arts.
The influence of those planets on particular people may differ, depending on aspects with planets in their natal chart. But the existence of an exact sextile in a particular year however shows that for some fraction of people this will be an effective aspect.
Usually aspects between distant planets are taken into acount in an orb of 1 -2 degree (6). This means that a few years before and after (here 2-3) the time intervals considered above (1950-57, 1977-86, 2026-32) the sextile is, for some months in a year, is still within the required orb. During the mentioned years it is not always within the orb because (as we see from Fig.1,2) the angular distance between annual maximum and minimum is about 4 degrees. Therefore, if this difference varies between -2 and +2 degrees (in middle years, 1954, 1981, 2029), the orb is active only in the fraction of the year when it is between -1 and +1. If we have a look at the edge year, like 1956 or 2026, the distance varies between 0 and 4 degrees, and it is below 1 degree for some fraction of the year. But even the next or previous year it is not an exact sextile, but within the required 1 degree interval.
This means that there are some dates in the time intervals 1947-1960, 1975-1988, 2024-2034, when the sextile between Neptune and Pluto works. But the percentage of those dates grows from the edges of intervals towards their centers (1953, 1981, 2029). Remarkably is that these 3 intervals occur during 80 years, but will not repeat for more than a hundred years.
1.1. Meaning of Pluto and Neptune in Astrology
Pluto has the meaning of high energies, including nuclear and collective energies of masses of people. Neptune has the meaning of water flows (including floods), but also an addiction to alcohol, drugs and gambling, as well as creative energies (including music and visual arts). But it also shows the level of human intuition. The sextile between Neptune and Pluto can bring insights, regeneration of subconscious and a heyday in parapsychology. Here we focus more on positive rather than on negative influences.
1.2. Influences on People by this Long Transit
There are two types of astrological influences of this sextile on society. Because of the first some of the ones, born in the mentioned intervals- with this sextile in horoscope-, may have special abilities in parapsychology or can generate a gain of knowlegde in science. For example there were reports in the 1970-90s about indigo children with unique abilities (7). This analysis suggests that they are likely to be born between 1975 and 1988.
The second influence works only during the listed periods (i.e., 1947-1960, 1975-1988, 2024-2034). The sextile of Neptune and Pluto on the sky works as a transit for people, who have some aspects with this planets of their natal charts. In those periods some can make inventions, while others can develop intuition or create art.
1.3. The Meaning of Sextile between Pluto and Neptune
We know that 1945-1960 (also related to Pluto) was the period of fast development of knowledge in nuclear science.
In 1980s there were some achievements in parapsychology and other esoteric sciences (Dr. Yegorov learned about this in 1990-92 through personal conversations). It is not clear what achievements the third period, starting in 2024, will bring along, but they will be for sure. You can find some of our predictions at the end of the article.
We think that this aspect generates intuitive collectivism, because Pluto is about collective actions, Neptune gives rise to intuition, and the sextile is a potential to generate a positive synthesis of both influences.
2. Dynamics of the Transit and Observations
Let’s have a look at the dynamics of the angular distance between those planets in detail. The interesting period of observation is between 1945 and 2035. Before the distance was mathematically negative and rising, and after it is positive and rising (because Neptune is on average faster than Pluto). The deviation from the exact sextile (60 degrees) in the period 1945-1953 is shown in Fig 1.
As we see from Fig.1-3, the period from the end of the second world war till the late 1980es is characterized by an almost exact sextile between Neptune and Pluto. In every year in this interval there were periods of either exact sextiles (1950-57 and 1977-86) or the minimal distance from the exact sextile during a year did not exceed 2 degrees. This means a high probability of birth of people with special talents in classical science and arts, but also in parapsychology. As for the talented scientists and artists- born before 1945-, they could probably have an intuitive feeling as well as high creative activity in those periods.
2.1. Examples from Science
High intensity of developments in the use of nuclear energy- both in military and peaceful applications-, and of rocket science and space flights was observed from the late 1940s till 1980s. The 1950s are particularly noteworthy for very fast developments in those fields. In 1990s the investment in nuclear physics fell worldwide, while space flights have been maintained, but at a lower intensity in comparison to the 1960-1980s.
There was also a renewed interest to esoteric sciences in 1980s (at least in the USSR, when Gorbachev’s reforms have opened such a possibility). This interest became much less intense in the beginning of the 21st century, when the distance between exact sextile of Pluto and Neptune was increasing.
2.2. Talents in the USSR
The USSR has created favorable conditions for the development of talents in math and natural sciences without a big investment in this period. The personal experience of the authors reveals an intensive search for talents in math and physics in 1960s-80s, as well as good education in these sciences in the universities, with diplomas recognized worldwide. In the early 21st century the quality of education was going down worldwide.
The success of the USSR in achieving parity in the cold war in the post-war period- despite much smaller financial resources- was probably driven by this transit.
3. Graphs and Events
Let’s have a look at the the orb dynamics using the figures of 5 periods and some matching historical events.
There are time intervals when the distance is zero. In certain years this happens twice, in other years never. The detailed analysis of ephemeris shows that the interval of the exact sextiles has three components: a) between 1950 and 1956, b) between 1977 and 1986, c) between 2026 and 2032. In the cases a) and c) the trend is positive (as on Fig.1, 2, 4 and 5) while in the case b) it is negative (Fig. 3).
3.1. Period 1945-1953
The deviation from the exact sextile (60 degrees) in the period 1945-1953 in Fig. 1 shows a slow reduction of the distance to the exact aspect that starts in 1949.

Examples from history
Since Pluto is also responsible for nuclear energy, let us track global events in this area. The first nuclear test in the United States took place on July 16, 1945. The Soviet Union also developed nuclear weapons from 1949 onwards (8). The US atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 were the first and only military uses of nuclear weapons (9). In 1951, nuclear power generation was achieved for the first time in the research reactor EBR-1 (Experimental Breeder Reactor I) in Arco, Idaho, USA. Edward Teller invented the hydrogen bomb in the USA in 1950-52. In 1952 US nuclear physicists detonated on of those on the Eniwetok Atoll in the Pacific Ocean for the first time (10).
Neptune is also responsible for water disasters, while Pluto can generate mass victims. The tsunami of November 5, 1952, triggered by an earthquake with 9.0 magnitude, killed 2,336 people on the Kuril Islands, USSR (11).
3.2. Period 1953-1963
If we look at sextile in the time interval between 1953 and 1963 in Fig. 2 we notice that this distance has a cyclical component (with a period of 1 year and about 4 degrees between annual minimum and maximum) and in Figures 1 and 2 a positive trend. Between 1950 and 1957 there is a zero distance twice a year. About 3 years before and after the shortest distance is less than 1 degree.
Since Pluto also symbolizes energies of masses of people, we should focus not only on nuclear energy, but also on actions of big collectives. This sextile between Neptune and Pluto can be interpreted as an intuitive collectivism. This collectivism is not the sole achievement of the USSR. After the second world war the role of state became high in European countries and even in the USA. The post-war period had also lower inequality in income distribution in the developed countries. Only in the 1980s liberal ideas started to dominate, first in the USA (Reagan) and UK (Thatcher), and after 1989-91 also in post-communist countries. It’s noticeable that this shift to an individualism coincided with the end of action of this sextile around 1990.

Examples from history
The whole postwar period is characterized by the cold war between the US and the Soviet Union. It began in 1947, lasted for 44 years, and ended with the dissolution of the USSR in December 1991 (12). First the USSR was lagging behind the USA. It had a nuclear bomb only 4 years after the USA. Then the gap was reducing. In 1953, the Soviet Union detonated a hydrogen bomb, only 1 year after the USA. We can consider this moment as the first equilibrium in arms race. The first nuclear powered submarine, the "Nautilus", was put into service by the US Navy in 1954. The first nuclear submarine of the Soviet Union was commissioned in 1958 (4 years after) (13). In 1961, the Soviet Union detonated the Tsar bomb over the island of Novaya Zemlya for test purposes (14). In 1962, the critical point in Cuban Missile Crisis was reached, when the USSR brought its nuclear weapons into position in Cuba (15).
The nuclear energy can also be used peacefully. In 1954, the world's first nuclear power plant went into operation in Obninsk near Moscow. In 1954 the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) was founded in Geneva by twelve European countries. This is an example of collective action and cooperation between countries.
It is to be emphasized, that Neptune can also symbolize floods. In the same year there was a flood disaster in the Netherlands (1,835 deaths) and Great Britain (307 deaths) (16). In 1955, 45 million people in India were left homeless as a result of the floods, with numerous deaths (17).
3.3. Period 1975-1989
The evolution of this distance between 1975 and 1988 is to be seen in Fig. 3. Now the trend becomes negative (Pluto moves faster) and in 1 year between 1977 and 1985 a double crossing occurs. But between 1963 and 1977 the minimal distance is less than 2 degrees. Therefore, in the whole interval 1945-1991 the sextile is almost exact.
Another meaning of this aspect is the development of parapsychology. In 1980s there were some achievements in parapsychology and other esoteric sciences (Dr. Yegorov learned about this in 1990-92 through personal conversations).

Examples from history
First some examples of natural disasters, with many victims, related to Neptune. In 1976, a tsunami in the Gulf of Moro in the Philippines took more than 5,000 lives. On 26 May 1983, a magnitude-7.7 earthquake occurred in the Sea of Japan, about 100 km west of thecoast of Noshiro in Akita Prefecture. The resulting tsunami caused 103 fatalities (18). In 1984 typhoon "Ike" caused severe damage in the Philippines and claimed 1,400 lives (19).
In 1986, the Chernobyl nuclear disaster began with the explosion of Unit 4 of the nuclear power plant 20.
In 1981 Ronald Reagan became President of the United States. He wanted to win the arms race against the Warsaw Pact, using the divided Europe as a base for nuclear medium-range missiles for this purpose.
The end of period 3 brought along the dissolution of the communist block (starting with the fall of Berlin wall in 1989) and the USSR in 1991.
3.4. Period 1992-2022
After 1991 the minimal distance starts to exceed 2 degrees and grows each year till 2008, reaching about 6 degrees. Later it becomes less: 3 degrees in 2020 and 2 degrees in 2022. The annual deviation of this distance from an exact sextile became very high in 2008 (varying from 6 to 9 degrees), but then reduced in 2020 (from 3 to 6 degrees, see Fig. 4).

Since 1990 we also see the slowing down in the development and even a reduction in the use of nuclear energy (see Fig. A1, A2 in Appendix). We also see that the fraction of the global population born in 1945-90 was reducing from 80% in 1990 to only 50% in 2020 (Fig. A3, A4 in Appendix).
3.5. Period 2025-2032
The exact sextile twice a year starts again in 2025 and lasts till 2032 (Fig. 5). In 2025 the distance is still negative, while in August 2026 it becomes zero (see the arrow on Fig.5). In the next years zero distance will occur twice a year, and it becomes only positive after 2032.
Later the distance from an exact sextile will only grow. No other sextile between Neptune and Pluto will occur in the 21st century. However, a square will occur in 2062 (when this pair will be in the 25th degrees of Gemini and Pisces), and then a trine in 2087 (21st of Aries and 21st of Leo).

4. Examples from Arts and Literature
We know that science fiction was developing fast in the post-war period, especially in the USSR and the USA. It has been reflecting the development of science. Well knowm examples for creators of science fiction, are Ivan Yefremov (21) (1908-1972) with his main science fiction books “Andromeda” (1957) and “Bull’s Hour” (1968), the brothers Arkady (1925-1991) and Boris Strugatsky (1933-2012) in the USSR, Ray Bradbury in the USA(1920-2012) with high creative activity starting in the 1950s. It’s true that those writers were born before an emergence of this sextile, but it has boosted their creative activity. Contrary to that period, no comparable achievements have been observed in the early 21st century.
It is important to mention Salvador Dali (22), the inventor of surrealism and one the most known artists of the 20th century. Though he was born in 1904- well before the sextile- most of his activity in art took place during the period of this sextile (1945-1989). While Dali developed his own vision in art from late 1920s on, he incorporated the ideas from physics- including nuclear- in his art (“Atomic Leda” and other works dated close to 1950) after the second world war.
Michael Jackson was born on 08/29/1958. In his birth chart the sextile between Neptune and Pluto has an orb of 0°25`. This indicates his great creative and artistic ability and his talent for performances in front of a huge number of people. It should also be added here that this aspect can act both positively and negatively- it all depends on the cosmic status of the planets. Only when the energy of Neptune is used in the right way, it is possible to use its capacities with Pluto, because then illusions disappear- otherwise it brings a world of illusions or dependence on medicines and drugs.
Stevie Wonder (born 05/13/1950) is a famous American composer, producer and pop star. In his birth chart the sextile between Neptune and Pluto has an orb of 0°47`. At the beginning of 1970, his creative career developed greatly and he became famous all over the world. At the same time, Stevie Wonder became more and more politically active: Through his 1980 human rights campaign, he contributed to the declaration of Martin Luther King King's birthday as a public holiday in the United States (1986) (23). This speaks of the high energy of Pluto with Neptune.
Another prime example is Suzi Quatro, American musician and actress, born on 06/03/1950, having this aspect with an orb of 1° 21`. Her musical career began in the early 1970s, shortly before the second period of this sextile started some years later.
Phil Collins, English drummer, singer, songwriter, producer, actor and author of books, born 01/30/1951 in England, has a sextile between Neptune and Pluto with an orb of 0° 38’. He is a member of the rock group Genesis, which gained great popularity in the 1970s.
5. Forecasts for the Period 2024-2032
We can expect a return to the tendencies of 1945-90. Before we have tracked success in nuclear energy, intuitive collectivism and development of intuitive and paranormal abilities in arts and science.
We can also expect realizations in new, yet unknown forms. This can include discoveries of new energies, the growth of intuitive and paranormal abilities, a tendency towards collectivism among people.
This period can bring new inventions and findings in space exploration, flights with atomic-guided spaceships to Mars, Jupiter, the Moon and other planets in our Solar system, as well as new types of nuclear energy for peaceful and military purposes. The invention of new types of energy generation can promote the trend towards digital applications. However, reliance on electronic devices that manipulate human thinking can become a major problem. The transition to the Age of Aquarius is becoming noticeable in all areas.
The return of the sextile indicates the tendency that special abilities of many people can be recognized and clairvoyance as well as intuition can be used for good purposes. By this natural healing methods are likely to experience a strong boom. A new, intuitive way of thinking can gain in importance and spread in the natural sciences, humanities and art. This enables new types of art to emerge, which also influence people through the unconscious. This aspect can also indicate the recognition of astrology as a science and the transfer of its knowledge in schools and universities.
The return of the sextile will last only for about 10 years. For people born in 1945-1990, who are now less than a half of the global population (see Fig.A3), it will bring new opportunities for creative activity. Not all of them have talents in these fields, but we will definitely see some growth in 2020s. The contribution to arts and sciences by people with such abilities born in 2025-2032, we can observe only 20 years after, when they will be grown up. Thus, the influence of return of sextile in 2020s will give the creative boost in 2 waves, in 2025-2032 and starting 2040s.
We can also expect social self-organization and higher role of collectivistic principles at the expense of individualistic. While after 1990 the division of countries into smaller ones could be observed, we can see again- after 2025- the emergence of unions between countries, similar to EU formation.
Appendix
The Appendix consists of 3 parts, concentrating on physics of aspect influence, dynamics of nuclear energy and global demography.
A1. Physics of Aspect Influence
Similar to the gravity law by Newton, we can describe the force from an aspect by formula F=mM G(Δ), where G’<0, Δ is distance of aspect from exact (here 60 degrees), M – strength of planet influence (common for all people), m – individual propensity to be influenced by it. The cumulative influence of an aspect to some person is proportional to the integral ∫GΔ(t) dt. Δ(t) behaves inversely to the distance on Fig. 1-5. That is, it is the highest for Δ=0, lower for 1 degree, then decreasing and vanishing to zero at Δ =3 degrees. Nevertheless, due to long duration of integration time t (for some people up to 45 years) the overall quantitative action become significant.
A2. The Dynamics of Nuclear Energy
Some data about dynamics of nuclear energy production can be important. Fig.A1 shows the dynamics of nuclear energy production (now about 10% of global primary energy). (24)

It is important to take into account not only absolute values of capacities and production, but their dynamics and fraction among all energy. Now nuclear energy does not exceed 10% of all produced energy and this share declines.
A3. Change in Global Demography
Since only a fraction of population was born under the influence of sextile of Pluto to Neptune, it is important to estimate how this fraction changes over time. We can use demographic pyramids and summarize the people of certain age, who were born between 1945-1990.
The dynamics of demographic pyramid shows, that in 1990 (Fig. 4A) about 80% of global population (born in 1945-90) were influenced by the sextile of Pluto to Neptune. In 2020 (Fig. 3A) only about 50% of people were born between 1945 and 1990. Therefore, the global influence of people born under the sextile of Neptune and Pluto is much less.
