Biography

Canadian-American musician, singer, songwriter and actress, known for her emotive mezzo-soprano voice and confessional songwriting. She has won 7 Grammy Awards, 14 Juno Awards, 1 Brit Award and has sold more than 75 million records worldwide and has been dubbed the "Queen of Alt-Rock Angst" by Rolling Stone.

Her 1995 LP Jagged Little Pill sold nearly 20 million copies; the title song summed up the anger and angst of adolescence and brought her four Grammys and a wave of adulation and success. Her second album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, was released on 3 November 1998 and shot to the top of the charts. The album possessed a clarity, both lyrically and musically, that was oftentimes missing from Morissette's breakthrough first album.

She was raised by schoolteacher parents with an older twin brother, Wade, and another older brother, Chad. She made an incredibly early start in a show biz career at ten on the Nickelodeon's TV series. She had her own record company at 14 and her debut album, Alanis, went platinum when she was 17.

In 1993 Morissette was the victim of a mugging. Her full reaction was delayed until she went home for a visit at Christmas 1994 and was hit with a serious anxiety attack. She had a long period of crying jags and fainting spells. After searching her soul in therapy, she came out with Pill, going from teen disco queen to head-banging keening and ranting on the dark side.

The rocker became engaged to actor Ryan Reynolds in spring 2004. Their relationship ended in February 2007. She married rapper Mario “MC Souleye” Treadway on 22 May 2010. They have a son, Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway (born 25 December 2010), and a daughter, Onyx Solace Morissette-Treadway (born at 1:21 AM, 23 June 2016), both born at their home in Los Angeles. She gave birth to her third child, a son, Winter Mercy Morissette-Treadway, on 8 August 2019.

John McKay-Clements quotes Elizabeth Deschenes from Morissette, given in The Canadian Astrology Collection. She was one of twins with a brother Wade born at 9:51 AM. Considering a biography by Paul Cantin, there is some confusion whether Alanis was first (born 9:39) or second (born 9:51).

On 15 February 2014, a forum user pointed to a Youtube video where, at 3:15 in this video, Alanis says: "My brother is 12 minutes older than me and never let's me forget it" [1].

Sy Scholfield quotes a news report stating that "Wade Imre Morissette [is] the slightly older twin brother of singer/actress Alanis Morissette (see Q&A with him on 77Square.com)" (Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, 11 Oct 2009, page G8).

Scholfield quotes Onyx's birth time from online article, "She gave birth to her first two children at home...
