Biography

Costa Rican painter, engraver and writer. He made more than 500 works, many of them receiving important awards at national and international level. In Costa Rica he is considered one of the most influential Spanish artists of the twentieth century, whose work portrays the Costa Rican society and culture. In 1970 he was awarded the National Prize of Culture Magon. In 2010, the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica declared Meritorious of the Patria, recognizing it as a flagship and one of the most important and emblematic of the twentieth century Costa Rican citizen.

He died on 12 November 1998.
