Venus, the goddess of beauty and love holds the rulership over everything beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, sweet and delicious. She answers to our tastes, what we like and dislike in arts, music and sensual pleasures. When considering Venus in cooking we want to be able to combine all of these principles into something that looks and tastes divine!

We can find more inspiration from the astrological VENUS rulerships:

  • Day Sign - TAURUS
  • Night Sign - LIBRA
  • Metal - COPPER
  • Gems - JADE, ALABASTER
  • Colours - YOUR FAVOURITE!
  • In the body - Eating disorders, face, cheeks, hair, complexion, kidneys, blood sugars, venereal diseases, stress and tension in neck and shoulders. Posture.

Thank the goddess we have so many choices with Venus, as she does represent personal tastes. To honour Venus we decided to make her a cake, the ultimate sweet, something beautiful and delicious and something special to share with those near and dear. We made sure we used some of our favourite ingredients from above. You may like to vary some ingredients to fine tune to your personal and creative tastes. Added extras would be to decorate your space with laced tablecloths, bejewelled plates and glassware and fragrant flowers. With everything presented to your liking make sure to invite your loved ones to share it with!

For biscuit base - Add all dry ingredients to blender until roughly chopped. Add melted butter and process until well combined. Transfer to 20 cm base pan and press evenly around base, approx 3 mm thick all around and slightly up the sides.

For cheese filling - Use an electric mixer to beat the cream cheese, until smooth and silky, at least. Add sugar and beat until well combined. Add eggs one at a time until well combined after each one. Add lemon juice and beat until fully combined. Pour cheese filling into base. Bake for 45 minutes in a 180° (C) oven, then switch oven off and let cake sit in oven for another 10 minutes. After cooling, place in fridge for a few hours before decorating.

Berry compote - Place all ingredients into a saucepan and heat until sugar dissolves. Set aside and cool.

To decorate - Top cake with a layer of whipped cream to your liking, and decorate with Venusian fresh fruits of your choice. We chose summer fruits: peaches and raspberries. Serve slices of cake with berry compote.

As this is a Venus inspired cake, we did have a go at creating a Venus Rose mandala made of fruits to decorate our cake with. But we ran out of time to perfect our arrangement and method and get it right before our guests arrived. We will definitely have another go at it. The aesthetically beautiful sacred geometry, rose, pentacle, and Fibonacci sequence relating to the cycle of Venus and found all throughout nature, could be a whole new trend in cake decorating. You heard it here first! Imagine the creative possibilities. See what you can come up with and send us a pic. The cake was still delicious!
